Who We Are

ROAR Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue of stray and unwanted animals in Rocky Mountain House and surrounding areas:  Nordegg, Leslieville, Eckville, Condor, Caroline.  We are a 'no-kill' society intent on reducing the use of euthanasia on homeless animals.  The only time an animal will be euthanized is if their quality of life is diminished due to injury, disease, or serious behavioural problems.  We are comprised of dedicated individuals committed to making a difference.  ROAR depends on donations and sponsorship to ensure these animals have a second chance at life.  Pet owners who can no longer care for their pets are encouraged to find new homes for them before contacting us.  We are to be regarded as a last resort for these animals when all other possibilities have been exhausted.

What We Do

At this time, ROAR does not have a 'shelter' to house animals, but instead we work on a Good Neighbour system where the person calling in to ROAR will be asked to be the foster home for the animal they have found. Due to the extremely low amount of foster homes in the area we have been forced to alter how ROAR’s fostering system functions. Only in extreme emergencies will we be able to foster an animal and that is only in the event that a foster home can be found.

Adoptions

Our adoptions fees are in place to help cover costs incurred to make or keep these animals healthy. This includes spay/neuter, first shots, and general check-up to ensure your new pet is healthy. Although we realize that strays come free of charge, overall their cost in vet bills will surpass the fee we are asking for adoption. Please see our pricing comparison fact charts on the DOG PAGE and the CAT PAGE. We do ask that you fill out an adoption form when you adopt your new pet with us.

Emergency Placement

In co-operation with Rocky Victim Services and MRWS, when possible, we will provide temporary care for an animal that is in danger due to a violent or dangerous situation. We are not here to replace Animal Services, which means we cannot interfere with town licensing regulations. We have no authority to pick-up tagged animals and return them to owners.

We follow the rules of the Designated Holding Status that the SPCA follows, which is that after 10 days if you do not claim your animal then you have forfeited all rights to that animal.

How you can Help

Volunteers are at the heart of our organization. Without the countless hours they contribute, our program could not be a success. Volunteer help is always needed for emergency fostering, fundraising, public education seminars and more. In addition to volunteers, we gratefully accept donations of money, cat and dog food, toys, treats, cat litter, and litter boxes. Our goal is to eventually have a shelter facility. If you can help us reach that goal, please CONTACT US!
